Primary Job Responsibilities:
eBay is hiring! The European Product Development group is on the hunt for a
Senior Frontend Developer
based in London. Based in our beautiful Richmond offices, we’re looking for passion and enthusiasm, with a laser sharp eye for design details and great technical ability.
We can offer a fun, empowering and innovative work culture that is all about being focused on the customer and doing the right thing.
You will feel like you’re working in a start-up, whilst at the same time having the resources of a huge technology company behind you. Working at eBay is a rewarding, challenging and inspiring experience. We have offices and staff across Europe but this role will be based in London.
To Fit Well With this Role
You’re a front end developer with extensive experience of building front end applications that delight your customers. You have a passion for visual design and user experience design, and you know what the difference is. Not only that, you take pride in high quality front end work – evangelizing user experience quality with those around you – and you spread that enthusiasm to others in the team.
The latest web development technologies and techniques are second nature to you; you’re familiar with various front-end frameworks (e.g. AngularJS, Backbone, etc.) and know how to choose between them, but you’re also proficient with the raw underlying technologies (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, etc.). We’re particularly interested in meeting you if you’re a generalist with a range of skills like Java, Objective C, working on many different screen sizes and resolutions, or mobile OS’es, etc. Since you are passionate and interested in what you do, you are confident sharing your ideas with others, perhaps participating in conferences and meet ups in the industry.
You’ve probably been a professional software developer for 7+ years, and you have experience working with UX designers; you enjoy the negotiation with designers to deliver great user experiences. You know how agile and user-centred design work together. With a talent for unifying teams, you are happy wearing the Tech Lead or Scrum master hat in your team. You are a natural role model and mentor for less senior engineers.
Ideally, you will also have some or all of the following:
-
Familiarity with multi-screen development, adaptive/responsive design.
-
An understanding of web page performance and scalability.
-
Knowledge of how to both prototype and spike (and know when one is more appropriate than the other).
Our teams work in an agile fashion, practicing incremental design, test driven development and continuous delivery. We value cross-functional collaboration and pairing. You’ll need a background in agile development, or a strong interest in developing in this area.
But hang on we’re a world class company building best-in-class software so you get extra points awarded if you are:
-
an open-source enthusiast. If you’re actively contributing to a project, tell us about it.
-
fluent in more than one spoken language. We support all of Europe so this can be super useful.
-
as passionate about buying and selling online, and about connecting people globally through trade, as we are.
Sound like you? CV’s are helpful, but we’d love to know more about you than a list of dates and acronyms. So please include a covering letter with your CV telling us about yourself and why you’re interested in working with us, as well as a portfolio site URL/ file share to review design and front end projects you’re proud of.
Are you interested?
