POSITION SUMMARY:
The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating various marketing materials for William Joseph and its clients. Ultimately, he/she is versatile, and has strengths in many areas of design, such as layout design, annual reports, logo design, illustration, and occasional magazine ad concepts. He/she is responsible for print production on projects. This consists of double-checking all files and providing the printer with all specifications required to complete the job.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. PRODUCTION/PRE-PRESS
• Ensures clean prepress production on pieces before printing (i.e., alignment, spell-check, etc.)
• Methodically proof-reads to produce accurate and high quality work.
• Secures and maintains proper image size and quality.
• Ensures colour correction and management throughout project.
• Ensures that all files follow William Joseph’s filing system and clean prepress production.
• Follows department process.
2. PRINT SUPPLIER
• Provides electronic files and all associated materials to printers according to their specifications.
• Ensures that all images are in CMYK format and are at a resolution of 300dpi, unless otherwise noted in original quote.
• Provides the printer with a specifications document.
• Checks the designs to make sure everything lines up and there are no discrepancies.
• Carefully checks printer proofs to ensure that quality expectations are met.
3. GRAPHIC DESIGN AND VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS
• Interprets creative briefs and design material as requested by the Creative Director, Operations Manager, and Account Managers.
• Clarifies design issues and thinks creatively to produce new ideas and concepts.
• Contributes ideas and designs artwork to the overall brief.
• Presents finalized ideas and concepts to Creative Director.
• Manages more than one design brief at a time and allocates the relevant amount of time according to the parameters of the job.
• Incorporates a wide range of media (including photography and computer aided design software) into projects.
• Demonstrates consistency in overall design decisions when working on campaigns.
• Provides layout design, annual reports, logo design, illustration, and occasional magazine ad concepts.
• Chooses stock and other special print specifications such as die cuts, varnishes, foils, embosses, and metallic inks.
4. INTERNAL SUPPORT
• Exemplifies the “William Joseph experience” through day-to-day actions.
• Acts as company advocate and embodies William Joseph values: collaboration, professionalism, excellence, brilliance and passion.
• Formats all documents according to William Joseph brand standards.
• Demonstrates incredible attention to detail, leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the client receives excellence in service and quality design, remaining within the predetermined scope and timelines set for a particular project.
• Manages multiple projects and maintains tight timelines, often working around strict and sometimes sudden deadlines.
• Demonstrates creative, dynamic, flexible approaches to problems and resolves issues in timely and professional manner.
• Supports other team members in a fast-paced, controlled chaotic environment, often working long hours and occasionally evenings or weekends to meet deadlines.
• Logs all hours to time sheets.
• Observes and respects all William Joseph processes in place.

• Other duties as required by William Joseph.

• Experience in proofing, preflighting, preparing and press-checking files are extremely important for Print Production Artists.
• Multimedia and web knowledge is beneficial.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Over five years’ experience.
• Minimum level of education – two-year (diploma) to four-year (degree) program in graphic design/visual communications.
• Software proficiency in MAC-based programs: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, a must. Computer literate in Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Excel).
